Dental Implant Dentist in Rugby

At Rugby Smiles in Rugby we offer both staged implants (treatment over time) and same-day implants.

Dr Jag Shergill is a highly experienced implant surgeon and has undertaken extensive postgraduate education in this area, he holds an MSc in implantolgy and can offer advanced implant surgey at his practice in Rugby.

The type of treatment chosen is decided upon during the initial consultation and varies between individuals. We use a variety of implant systems at our clinic as this gives us the opportunity to choose the best system for each individual patient.

Dental implants offer a permanent solution for your missing teeth and are the only solution for missing teeth that maintains the structure of your neighbouring teeth, unlike bridges where nearby healthy tooth tissue may need to be drilled.

A dental implant is essentially a substitute for a natural tooth root, it is a titanium post that is secured into your jaw bone.

To accommodate your implant a hole will be precisely drilled at the appropriate location in your jawbone and the implant screwed or tapped into place. Often the implant can be placed at the same time as removal of the tooth all on the same day.

The outer surface of the implant is roughened and this provides structure for the microscopic growth of your surrounding bone tissue onto the implant surface giving it strength and stability. This process is called osseointegration.

In order to support replacement teeth, dental implants normally have some form of internal screw thread or post space that allows a variety of components to be fitted.

Once implants have integrated they can be used to provide long-term support for crowns, bridges and dentures.
